How Much Does a Mobile Mechanic Cost?
The short answer
SV Autos charges a £20 call-out to come to you, then a set labour price for the job: £100 for an interim service, £160 for a full service, £80 to fit brake pads on an axle, £80 to fit a battery and £20 for diagnostics. Parts are quoted separately for your car, and you get the full price in writing before any work starts.
Most garages and mobile mechanics won't tell you what anything costs until they have your car. We publish ours. The figures below are labour, which is the part we can fix in advance. Parts change with the make, model and the quality you want, so they're quoted per car rather than guessed at here.
What it costs
| Job | Labour | What that covers |
|---|---|---|
| Call-out | £20 | Flat fee to come to your home or work, anywhere in our area. No mileage charges. |
| Interim service | £100 | Oil, oil filter and air filter, plus a safety check. |
| Full service | £160 | The interim work plus a cabin filter, a coolant flush and a fuller system check. |
| Major service | £240 | Our most thorough service, adding the fuel filter, a brake fluid change and a brake inspection. |
| 30-point health check | £80 | 10 areas of the car checked and scored, for a total out of 30. Inspection only. |
| Diagnostics | £20 | We read the fault and explain it. The full £40 comes off the bill if we do the repair. |
| Brake pads, per axle | £80 | Fitting both sides of one axle. Pads quoted separately. |
| Brake pads and discs, per axle | £100 | Fitting pads and discs on one axle. Parts quoted separately. |
| Oil and filter change | £80 | Correct-spec oil and a new filter, old oil taken away. |
| Battery replacement | £80 | Fitting and coding where the car needs it. The battery itself is quoted for your car. |
| Coolant flush | £40 | Old coolant drained and replaced. |
| Brake fluid change | £80 | Fresh fluid through the system. The fluid itself is about £10 to £15. |
| Pre-MOT check | £20 | The main MOT points checked so you can fix problems before the test. |
| Clutch, starter motor, alternator | Quote | Looked at first, then a fixed price for your car before any work. |
Every figure is labour only. The £20 call-out and any parts go on top. You get the total in writing, and agree it, before we start.
How our pricing works
Labour
The prices above. Fixed for the job, not charged by the hour, so a job running long is our problem rather than yours.
£20 call-out
One flat fee to come to you, anywhere in our area. No mileage charges and no surcharge for being further out.
Parts
Quoted for your exact car. They vary too much between makes and models to publish honestly, so we price them properly rather than guessing.
You get the three added together, in writing, before any work starts. If the job changes once we are looking at the car, you hear it from us first.
What changes the price
Any price that starts with "from" needs explaining, or it is just a hook. Here is what actually moves the number for your car.
- Your car
- Parts prices swing hugely between makes. A cabin filter for a Fiesta and one for a German saloon aren't the same money, and neither are brake discs.
- Parts quality
- We'll tell you where a budget part is a false economy and where it genuinely doesn't matter. It's your money and your call.
- What we find
- If a job grows once the wheel is off, you hear it from us before we carry on, not afterwards on the bill.
- Where the work happens
- Almost everything on this list is done on your driveway or in your work car park. A few jobs need a ramp, and we say so rather than taking them on.
Your questions
How much is a mobile mechanic call-out fee?
Ours is £20, flat, anywhere we cover. That's the fee for coming to you and it doesn't change with distance inside our area. Some mobile mechanics charge nothing for the call-out and build it into a higher labour rate instead, so it's worth comparing the total rather than the headline.
Is a mobile mechanic cheaper than a garage?
Usually, yes, for the jobs a mobile mechanic can do. There's no workshop rent or reception to pay for, so the labour is generally lower. The bigger saving is often your time: no dropping the car off, no courtesy car, no second trip to collect it. A garage still wins on anything needing a ramp or specialist equipment, and we'll tell you when that's the case.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. We quote the job, not the clock. You get one price for the work before we start, so a job taking longer than expected is our problem rather than yours. The only separate item is the £20 call-out, plus parts.
What isn't included in the price?
Parts. Every price on this page is labour only, because parts vary too much between cars to publish honestly. When you get in touch we price the parts for your exact car and give you a single total before anything starts.
Do I have to pay if I don't go ahead?
The quote is free and there's no obligation. If we've already come out and diagnosed a fault, the diagnostics fee applies, and it comes off the bill if you have us do the repair.
How do I get an exact price for my car?
Call, WhatsApp or send an enquiry with your registration and what the car is doing. We come back with a full price covering labour, the call-out and the parts your car actually needs.
Prices on this page are labour from £20, plus the £20 call-out and parts. Confirmed with James and current at the time of writing.
