Mobile Brake Repair at Your Door

Got worn pads, scored discs or a spongy pedal? We replace brakes properly on your driveway across Soham, Ely, Newmarket and Cambridgeshire. A published labour rate, quality parts, all makes and models.

Guide pricefrom £80 / axle+ £20 call-out

Your brakes are the one thing on your car you really can't put off. Worn pads, scored discs, a soft pedal or a grinding noise only get worse, and more expensive, the longer they're left, and worn brakes are one of the most common MOT failures. A mobile brake repair sorts them at your home or work, so there's no driving on dodgy brakes across town to a garage and no waiting around.

We replace brake pads, discs, fluid, wear sensors and sticking calipers on all makes and models, using quality parts, and we publish our labour rate up front, which most garages won't do until you've already handed the car over. Based in Soham, we cover Ely, Newmarket, Cambridge and the villages in between.

Pads, discs & everything around them

Brake pads, discs, fluid, wear sensors and sticking calipers, all replaced properly at your home or work.

Quality parts, priced up front

Good-quality or genuine pads and discs to suit your car, with the parts cost confirmed before we start.

A published labour rate

£80 an axle for pads, £100 an axle for pads and discs, plus parts. It's the number most garages keep behind a quote.

Safe and MOT-ready

Brakes done to standard, so you're safe on the road and won't get pulled up at the next MOT.

Transparent pricing

Our brake labour is a flat, published rate per axle (a pair of wheels, front or rear). The £20 call-out and parts go on top, and we confirm the full, all-in price before any work starts.

An axle is a pair of wheels, front or rear, which is how brakes are normally done. So front brakes means both front wheels. Send us your reg and we'll come back with the exact all-in price. Free, no obligation.

Why you shouldn't put brakes off

Brakes are wear items. Leaving them doesn't save money, it costs more and puts your safety at risk:

Worn pads wreck discs

Run pads down to the metal and they score the discs, turning a cheap pad change into a pricier pads-and-discs job.

It's an MOT failure

Worn or uneven brakes are a straight MOT fail, and advisories only get worse the longer they're left.

Stopping distances grow

Tired brakes and glazed pads mean a longer stop, which is exactly what you don't want in the wet or an emergency.

Far cheaper caught early

A pad change now is a fraction of the cost of discs, calipers and a failed test down the line.

Signs your brakes need attention

Noticed any of these? It's worth getting your brakes checked. We'll take a look and give you a straight, free quote.

Squealing or screeching when you brake

Usually the wear indicator on the pads letting you know they're near the end of their life. Time for a pad change.

Grinding or a metallic scraping

Often means the pads are worn right down and metal is contacting the disc. Don't drive far, as this damages the discs quickly.

A soft or spongy brake pedal

Can point to old brake fluid or air in the system. A brake fluid change usually sorts it, and we'll check for you.

Vibration or judder through the pedal

Typically warped or unevenly worn discs. You'll feel it most under firmer braking from higher speed.

The car pulls to one side when braking

Often a sticking caliper or uneven pad wear. Worth sorting quickly, as it affects how safely the car stops.

A brake warning light on the dash

Could be low pads on some cars, low fluid, or a sensor fault. We'll plug in and tell you exactly what it is.

  • Make and model, parts prices vary quite a bit by car
  • Whether the fluid, a sensor or a caliper also needs doing

The same job, without losing your day

Same tools, same quality parts, same standard, done at your home or work instead of a workshop. It is James who turns up, every time, so you are not explaining the car to someone new. Mobile brake pad replacement, at your house

Brakes are one of the jobs mobile does properly. They need the wheel off and the car supported safely, not a ramp, so there's no reason to drive anywhere. We come to your driveway or your work car park, fit the pads, clean and grease the carriers, and bed them in before we leave. Fitting is £80 in labour per axle, or £100 if the discs are going on at the same time, plus the £20 call-out and the parts for your car.

Front or rear, and why fronts go first

Front pads usually wear about twice as fast as rears, because the front brakes do most of the stopping. Plenty of cars go through two sets of fronts for every set of rears. If you only need one axle done, you only pay for one. Rear pads on many newer cars need the electronic parking brake wound back first, which is why some places won't touch them on a driveway. We can do it.

Can you come out the same day?

Often, yes. Brakes are the job we'll shuffle the diary for, because a grinding noise isn't something to leave for a fortnight. Ring rather than filling in the form if it's urgent and you'll get a straight answer about when we can be there. We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm.

We don't skim or machine discs

Worth saying, because people search for it. Disc machining needs a lathe and it's a workshop job. It has also fallen out of favour: modern discs are thinner to start with, and skimming takes them closer to the minimum thickness for a fix that doesn't last. If your discs are lipped, scored or warped we'll quote you new ones, which on most cars costs little more than a skim would have.

Mobile Brake Repair, your questions

Yes, pads and discs are a straightforward job to do on your driveway, and one of the most common things we're called out for. We bring everything needed and replace them at your home or work, no garage visit required.

Our labour is £80 an axle for pads, or £100 an axle for pads and discs together, plus the £20 call-out and parts, which vary by make and model. An axle is a pair of wheels, so front brakes covers both front wheels. Send us your reg and we'll give you the exact all-in price, free.

It's a flat £20 to come out to you, then the agreed price for the work on top. Nothing starts until you've approved the quote, no hidden fees.

You can, but you shouldn't for long. Worn pads lengthen your stopping distance, and once they wear down to metal they start scoring the discs, turning a cheap job into an expensive one. If you're hearing grinding, get them looked at before driving far.

Brakes that don't perform to standard are an MOT failure, and grinding usually means they're past their best. Squealing is often the wear indicator warning you a pad change is due. Either way, it's worth sorting before your test.

It depends on the state of your discs. If they're within spec and not scored or warped, pads alone will do. If they're worn, grooved or below the minimum thickness, they should be replaced with the pads. We'll check and tell you honestly which you need.

A pad change on one axle is usually under an hour; pads and discs a little longer. It all happens at your home or work, so you're not stuck waiting at a garage.

Yes. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and should be changed periodically to keep the brakes working safely, it's often done alongside a service. Ask us for a quote for your car.

We're based in Soham and come to you across Ely, Newmarket, Cambridge, Burwell, Fordham, Littleport, Mildenhall, Stretham, Witchford, Haddenham, Cottenham and the surrounding villages.
