Who we are

SV Autos is a mobile mechanic business run by James Snow, a sole trader trading as SV Autos. James Snow is the data controller responsible for your personal information.

You can reach us at [email protected] or by post at 17 Eastfen Common, Soham, CB7 5JH. If you have a question about your information or this policy, email is the quickest way to get an answer.

The information we collect

When you get in touch through the website, by phone, by WhatsApp or by email, we collect:

  • your name, phone number and email address
  • your town or postcode, so we know where you are
  • the service you need and anything you tell us about the car, including the registration if you give it
  • any other details you choose to include in your message

When you use the website, we also collect basic usage information (such as which pages you visit and rough location from your IP address) through the analytics tools described below. This only happens if you accept analytics cookies.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To reply to you and quote for the work. We use your contact details and what you tell us to get back to you, give you a price and carry out the job. Our lawful basis is taking steps at your request before entering a contract, and our legitimate interest in running the business.
  • To keep records. If you become a customer, we keep records of the work and payment. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest and our legal duty to keep tax and accounting records.
  • To understand how the website is used. We use analytics to see which pages are helpful so we can improve the site. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give through the cookie banner and can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not share it for advertising. We do use a small number of trusted providers to run the business, and they only process your information on our instructions:

  • Resend and Amazon Web Services, to deliver the emails our website sends
  • Cloudflare, which hosts and serves the website
  • Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, for website analytics (only with your consent)
  • QuickBooks (Intuit), for invoicing and accounts if you become a customer
  • Meta, if you choose to message us through the WhatsApp button

We may also share information where we are required to by law, for example with HMRC or if properly requested by a public authority.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details for up to 24 months and then delete them, unless you become a customer. Where you become a customer, we keep the records of your job and payment for six years, as we are required to for tax purposes. You can ask us to delete your information at any time and we will do so where we are not required to keep it.

Cookies and analytics

The website uses a small number of cookies. Necessary cookies keep the site working. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity) help us see how the site is used, and these stay switched off until you accept them. There are no advertising cookies.

You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of any page.

Your rights

Under data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • ask us to delete your information, where we are not required to keep it
  • ask us to restrict or object to how we use it
  • withdraw your consent to analytics at any time

To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your information and only give access to it to people who need it to do their job. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep the risk low.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of the page.
