Signs your fluids need changing

Rusty, brown or cloudy coolant
Coolant should be brightly coloured. When it turns brown or murky it's stopped protecting against corrosion and is due a change.
The engine runs hot or the heater is weak
Old or low coolant struggles to move heat around. If the temperature gauge creeps up or the cabin heater is lukewarm, get the coolant checked.
A manual gearbox feels notchy or stiff
Gears that are harder to select than they used to be, or crunch a little, can point to tired gearbox oil. Worth checking before it gets worse.
Very dark or gritty gearbox oil
Manual gearbox oil should be reasonably clean. Dark, gritty oil or a metallic feel means it's broken down and needs replacing.
