Mobile Mechanic in Cambridge
We come to your street, your driveway or your workplace anywhere across CB1 to CB5, often the same day, and get most jobs done there without you moving the car. £20 call-out, rated 5.0 on Google.
around 30 minutes south-west of Soham via the A10 or A14.
SV Autos covers Cambridge from our base in Soham, around half an hour away up the A10 or A14. We come to you across the city and its edges, so instead of booking your car into a garage and working out how to get yourself home, James turns up where the car already is and does the job there.
Cambridge is a hard place to run a car. The traffic is slow and stop-start, parking is scarce and it costs a fortune, and a lot of people living in the terraced streets and flats have no driveway and no easy garage nearby. A mechanic coming to you takes all of that off your plate, whether the car's outside your house or sat at your work car park all day anyway.
From a full service to a brake job, a warning light you want read properly, or a car that won't start on a residents' bay, we bring the diagnostic kit and the common parts and sort what we can on the spot. We work wherever there's safe, legal space to get at the car.
What we do in Cambridge
Most jobs a garage does, done on your driveway. Tap a service for what's involved and how we price it.
Stop-start city traffic is what wears cars out here
Cambridge driving is mostly crawling: queues on the ring, the constant lights, sitting in traffic around the centre and the station. That kind of stop-start use is exactly what chews through brake pads and clutches faster than open-road miles do. It's worth catching at a service before a soft pedal or a slipping clutch turns into a bigger bill, and we can do that check at your door.
Parking is the reason mobile makes sense in Cambridge
Parking in the city is expensive and hard to find, and plenty of homes near the centre are flats and terraces with permit or on-street parking only. Getting a car to a garage and yourself back can eat half a day. We come to the car where it's parked, as long as it's a safe and legal spot to work, so you don't lose the space or the time.
Home or work, across the city and its edges
We reach the inner districts and the surrounding areas: Cherry Hinton, Fulbourn, Milton, Histon and out towards Waterbeach. A lot of people commute into the city or park at a workplace or one of the park-and-ride sites all day, so we can often do the job while the car sits there anyway rather than you finding time to drop it off.
Can you come out the same day?
Often, yes. We keep room in the diary for urgent jobs and Cambridge is a run we do regularly, so a car that won't start or a brake problem that has just appeared can usually be seen the same day or the next. It depends on where we already are and whether your car needs a part we don't carry. Ring rather than fill in the form if it's urgent: you'll get a straight answer about when we can actually be there, not a booking confirmation and silence.
Are you a 24 hour or Sunday mobile mechanic?
No, and we'd rather say so. We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6pm. If your car has died at eleven at night you want a recovery service, not us. What we can do is pick it up first thing: if you call or message out of hours we'll see it when we open and get to you that day where we can. For anything urgent inside our hours, the emergency page explains how we prioritise.
Can you work on my car at my workplace?
Yes, and in Cambridge it's often the easiest option. If your car sits in an office or business park car park from nine until five, that's several uninterrupted hours where the car isn't being used. We come to it there, do the work while you're inside, and you drive home in a car that has been serviced without losing an evening or a weekend. We just need safe, legal space to get around the vehicle.
My car won't start. Can you come to it?
That's one of the most common calls we get from Cambridge. A car that won't start can't be driven to a garage, so a mobile mechanic isn't just convenient, it's the only option that doesn't involve recovery. We test the battery and the charging system before replacing anything, because a flat battery and a failed alternator look identical from the driver's seat and only one of them is fixed by a new battery.
What you get from a mobile mechanic in Cambridge
For most routine work, there's no difference in the job itself. Servicing, brakes, batteries, diagnostics, oil and filters are all done with the same parts and the same tools whether the car is on a driveway or a garage floor. What a garage has that we don't is a ramp and specialist equipment, which matters for gearbox work, major engine work and anything needing the car high in the air. We tell you when a job is one of those rather than taking it on badly. Everything on our services list is work that's genuinely better done at your door.
