Mobile EGR Valve Cleaning and Replacement at Your Driveway
Warning light on, rough idle or a car stuck in limp mode? A clogged EGR valve is a common diesel fault. We clean or replace it on your driveway across Soham, Ely, Newmarket and Cambridgeshire. No ramp needed, no garage drop-off.
The EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation valve) feeds a little exhaust gas back into the engine to cut emissions. It works hard, and on diesels that do a lot of short, stop-start trips it slowly clogs up with carbon and soot until it sticks. A sticking valve throws a warning light, makes the car run rough, and often drops it into limp mode. Left alone it can take the DPF down with it. The good news is that in a lot of cases the valve just needs a proper clean, not a new part.
We assess the valve, tell you honestly whether a clean will fix it or whether it genuinely needs replacing, and do the work at your home or work. No ramp is needed for this job, so it happens on your driveway. Based in Soham, we cover Ely, Newmarket, Cambridge and the villages in between, all makes and models.
We assess it properly first
We read the fault codes and check the valve before we quote, so you find out whether a clean will actually solve it or whether the part is too far gone.
Cleaned in situ or off the car
For a lighter build-up we can clean the valve in place. Where it's badly caked we remove it, strip the carbon off properly, and refit it.
A straight clean-or-replace answer
If a clean will hold, we clean it. If the valve is seized or the internals are worn, we tell you, because cleaning a dead valve just wastes your money.
Codes cleared, running checked
Once it's done we clear the stored fault codes and check the car runs and idles right before we leave. No ramp, all on your driveway.
Is it worth cleaning an EGR valve?
In a lot of cases, yes. A clean is a fraction of the cost of a new valve, and where the carbon is the only problem it fixes the fault. But it isn't always the answer, so here's the honest picture:
Much cheaper than replacing
EGR valves aren't cheap parts on many cars. If the valve itself is sound and just clogged, a clean gets you the same result for a lot less.
It often clears the fault and light
Where soot build-up is what's causing the rough running, hesitation or limp mode, cleaning the carbon out usually sorts it and the warning light stays off.
It can help performance and mpg
A stuck-open or clogged valve upsets how the engine breathes. Freeing it up can bring back lost throttle response and settle fuel economy back where it should be.
When a clean won't cut it
If the valve is seized solid, the motor or sensor inside has failed, or it's cleaned up before and come straight back, a replacement is the sensible fix. We'll say so rather than sell you a clean that won't last.

Signs your EGR valve is clogged

Engine warning light on the dash
A stuck or faulty valve is one of the most common triggers for the engine light on a diesel. We plug in and read the exact code before quoting.
The car drops into limp mode
Loss of power with the light on, where the car won't rev past a certain point, is a classic EGR fault protecting the engine. It usually needs the valve sorting and the codes clearing.
Rough or lumpy idle, or stalling
A valve stuck open lets too much exhaust gas in at idle, so the engine runs unevenly, shakes or even cuts out when you're sat still.
Hesitation or flat spots when you accelerate
Carbon in the valve upsets the air the engine gets, so you feel a stumble or a lag when you put your foot down, especially from low revs.
Fuel economy has dropped off
When the valve isn't metering properly the engine burns fuel less efficiently, so you notice more trips to the pump for the same driving.
More smoke from the exhaust
Extra soot or a smoky exhaust can come from a valve stuck in the wrong position. Often it goes hand in hand with a DPF that's struggling too.
